<\/a><\/p>\nThe Flats<\/h3>\n
This area north of the islands, known locally as the back country, is hundreds of square miles of shallow water, flats, channels, bridges and mangroves. Species found here include: Tarpon, Sharks, Rays, Mackerel, Jacks, Redfish, Snook, Bonefish, Permit, Barracuda, Snapper and Grouper, to name just a few.<\/p>\n
This area lies next to the islands to the south and extends about 4 miles, depth to about 40 ft but with many coral humps. Nearly all the species mentioned above can also be caught here. South of the reef the sea drops away quickly into deep blue water with wrecks, underwater canyons and mountains, all of which attract the big game: Bill Fish, Tuna, Dorado, Amberjack and massive Sharks.<\/p>\n With the shallow draft of the boat, wade fishing can be done on the shores and flats of the thousands of uninhabited islands. Also, the boat can be used to carry kayaks to distant shallow areas which are inaccessible to flat boats or wade fishermen.<\/p>\n You can fish some of these areas for possibly the first time ever!<\/strong><\/p>\n Fishing methods in the Keys are as varied as the numbers of fish and include: fly, light lure, livebait, trolling, cutbait, jigging and kite fishing. All of these methods will be fully explained and local guides can be hired if needed.<\/p>\n<\/a>
