Sorry yet again for the long delay between blogs \u2013 tarpon season just crazy.\u00a0 One party nearly killed me with just short of 90 hrs guiding for the week, and when you add on boat preparation, rods and bait, it’s a long week.<\/p>\n

John is doing a great job running Fish the Dream at the moment.\u00a0 Check his blogs out atwww.riverworks.co.uk<\/a>.\u00a0 It was surreal the other day… John is no mechanic, so when we had a small engine problem I talked him\u00a0through the repair with the aid of Skype and a web cam.\u00a0 Well done, John!<\/p>\n

Back to the title.\u00a0 Now that guests are on multiple trips we are starting to get wish lists and one such recent group were Roy and Bill.\u00a0 Roy has always wanted to catch a big king mackerel so on his last trip this was the mission, and despite going to all the right places and trying all the right methods, the big king\u00a0was playing hard to get.\u00a0 You now the saying, the harder you try the harder it gets.\u00a0 Big kings often stay far back in the chum so with this in mind on our last trip a blue runner was placed way back and the rod just left in a rod holder.\u00a0 Fishing all day we forgot about the rod but then all hell broke lose, fish on.\u00a0 Roy has a lovely gentle approach to fighting fish and it works.\u00a0 After a long fight the fish was boated at over 40lb \u2013 a big king.\u00a0 Job done!<\/p>\n

Now back to a more up to date note.\u00a0 It’s nice after all my years in the Keys to find a new mark and this year we have found a pemit and tarpon mark well away from\u00a0the dangers\u00a0of the bridges.\u00a0 It was on this mark, after a tough week of windy weather, that regular Lee Jasper had a near 30 permit.\u00a0 Well done, Lee.<\/p>\n

Footnote: oil, what oil?\u00a0 The oil is hundreds of miles away,\u00a0look at the maps, and is very unlikely to ever reach the Keys despite media\u00a0scaremongering.\u00a0 I am very sorry for the people in the northern gulf but luckily here in the Keys it shouldn’t be a problem.<\/p>\n
